Weber Pizza Stone 16.7”

Weber’s 16.7” Pizza Stone is great for making mouth-watering, traditional woodfire pizzas, in your own backyard. Consideration should be taken when it comes to care, cleaning, and the size of your kettle BBQ. It’s also important to point out, Cordierite is far from non-stick. So, this need to be taken into consideration, with cooking preparation. All things considered; the Weber Pizza Stone is a decent product. It has it’s drawbacks… however it does cook fantastic pizzas.

Weber 8836 Pizza Stone 16.7”

Is the Weber 8836 Pizza Stone the perfect replacement for a traditional, woodfire, brick pizza oven? Or is it a cheesy gimmick to sell more BBQ accessories? Let’s take a close look at Weber’s 16.7” Cordierite pizza stone and find out.

Design

  • 16.7” x 3/4” round Cordierite Ceramic
  • Removable metal carry handles
  • Designed to fit the Weber Original™ Gourmet BBQ System

The Good

  • Thick & Durable. 3/4” inch thick, this cooking stone is exceptionally durable. The thickness also means fantastic heat-distribution and heat-retention.
  • Absorbent. The Cordierite Ceramic material absorbs moisture during the cooking process – resulting in a lighter, crispier pizza crust.
  • Lightweight. The lightweight design makes this pizza stone easy to handle, which makes cooking, carrying, and cleaning a lot easier.
  • Suitable for Large Pizzas. At 16.7’’ this pizza stone is perfect for cooking large pizzas, to be enjoyed by family and friends.
  • Lifetime Warranty. Peace of mind. The Weber 8836 Pizza Stone has a limited lifetime warranty.

The Not-So Good

  • Conflicting Instructions. The booklet says to heat up your over, then place the pizza stone in the hot oven. However, Weber’s online videos, instruct you to put the pizza stone in the over, then heat the oven and pizza stone together. This is confusing, considering Cordierite has been known to crack when heated too quickly… so you’ll probably want to ignore the booklet instructions.
  • Can Crack if Heated too Quickly. As previously mentioned, if a cool pizza stone is place into a hot oven, the pizza stone can crack from being heated too quickly.
  • Carry Handle get HOT. Although the metal carry handles are a great addition, for transporting the hot cooking stone… the handles heat up fast. Requiring addition oven mitts, to carry safely.
  • Too Big to Fit Some BBQs. The large stone is designed to fit perfectly into the 22” Weber Original™ Gourmet BBQ System, and other larger kettle BBQs. However, this large pizza stone, may not fit into smaller kettle BBQs.
  • Special Care and Cleaning. The Cordierite is NOT non-stick. It must be scrubbed. It can’t be soaked in water or cleaned with soap. This means you must use specific cleaning instructions, to prolong the life of the stone.
